Dries Van Langenhove resigned as a Member of Parliament on Saturday. He was officially seated there as an independent in the VB parliamentary group, but now wants to devote himself fully to political activism. It was looking forward to the reaction of N-VA. Bart De Wever’s party has made it clear several times in the past that any cooperation with Vlaams Belang is out of the question as long as that party tolerates a number of extreme figures, such as Dries Van Langhove, in its ranks.
Flemish minister Zuhal Demir reacted to VTM on Sunday as the first N-VA leader. “I’m not impressed,” she said. “Dries Van Langenhove does leave parliament, but remains the propaganda machine of Vlaams Belang. Tom Van Grieken has not distanced himself from the delusions either. The Vlaams Belang must put all extremists at the door and clean up. I still see people at Vlaams Belang who openly support Putin, the man responsible for the high energy bills in our country,” Demir added.
Demir responded to the dismissal with a short tweet yesterday. “Any party that has even the slightest bit of common sense rejects such a person as a figurehead. This is insane,” she said.
