Martín Zubimendi was the midfielder chosen by Xavi Hernández and Barça’s technical leadership to replace Sergio Busquets during the next season. The Real Sociedad footballer liked him a lot and there was already a trial this summer about the possibility of signing, but it seems that the player will escape in the short term. Real Sociedad and the footballer will reach a renewal agreement until 2027 with a prohibitive termination clause.
Zubimendi liked Xavi for a long time. His positioning on the field and his play at first touch had amazed the Blaugrana coach. He sees him as a carbon copy of Busquets with the ability to progress a lot at Barça and polish himself. But wishes are one thing and reality is another. Real Sociedad wants to keep him and has no need to sell and the footballer is very comfortable in the San Sebastian project. He believes that due to his youth it will be good for him to continue at Anoeta for a minimum of two more years to grow as a footballer.
Barça has tried to convince him by assuring him that he will be a fundamental piece of the future, but next summer the Blaugrana club will not be there for large investments unless there are sales. Y Zubimendi’s renewal would be an insurmountable wall to sign him this June, although in the future we will see. Ruben Neves is the other candidate, although Xavi is less convinced by his technical performance.
