Health insurer CZ is raising the pressure towards the board of Zorgteling Het Adriano Huis (HAH) in Bergen op Zoom. The insurer no longer wants to collaborate with the institution due to abuses. If the board does not leave for Monday, CZ will end the agreement with the institution. Previously, the inspection also demanded the departure of the drivers, no respondation has yet been given.

The decision is necessary according to the insurer, “because the care provision of the Adriano Huis is seriously inadequate.” CZ wants to help the clients who are now at the care institution with a different place. The insurer has stopped all payments to HAH since March.

At the insurer’s headquarters in Tilburg have been involved in the situation at the Adriano House for some time. “We had the agreements to resume payments to the Adriano house,” a spokesperson for CZ told Southwest update. “Under the strict condition that they would follow the ruling of the inspection.”

The Healthcare and Youth Inspectorate (IGJ) found in May that the drivers of the house, Farid El-Khassim and Jelle Gillissen, have not been treating clients for a long time. In this way they are embarrassed, frightened and confused. Some care staff would also participate according to the inspection.

Hard -handed
The Adriano Huis provides care to people with intellectual disabilities who need a lot of guidance. Conversations and sound clips showed that the drivers would grab those clients hard, but also that they stopped residents to leave.

The inspection rather demanded the departure of the two directors of the care institution. They were given until 17 May to leave. That didn’t happen. The two went to court in the hope of getting the IGJ’s decision off the table.

‘Deep’ Deep ‘
The Adriano Huis board says it has been ‘deeply’ touched by the investigation. They find the research disproportionate and disruptive for residents and employees. The board states that the behavior of the clients can be unpredictable and dangerous, “that requires care that goes beyond the beaten paths.”

The institution should have a new board no later than 17 June, the IGJ states. “Then they must meet the standards for good and safe care.” That period will be next week.
