Thomas Tuchel came to the “Sky” table fully loaded. Immediately before the top Bundesliga game at Borussia Dortmund, the Bayern Munich coach had teased TV experts Dietmar Hamann and Lothar Matthäus in an interview – after the 4-0 win, the record national player really felt the anger.
Biting irony from Bayern coach Tuchel
The victory in the top game: “Despite a rift in the team with the coach? Despite no further development? Such a surprise”, Tuchel answered the first question with biting irony. And it continued: “Lothar definitely knows it, and if he doesn’t know it, Didi knows it.”
Addressing Matthew, Tuchel continued: “Then you do that today too, otherwise you don’t hold back. Lothar can do that, otherwise Didi can do that.”
Tuchel breaks off interview
The trainer didn’t even want to get involved in any further discussion with Matthäus, he was caustic: “I hear about bad phases, but we have two league draws and are leading our Champions League group. Now we’ve won 4-0, now you have to do a 180 degree turnaround – have fun with it!”
When he’s finished with the interview, he wants to “Easy going”Tuchel added, fumbling the headphones out of his ear in annoyance: “We heard a lot of things that weren’t true for us – it couldn’t have been that bad.” Then he stopped the interview and left.
On the press conference refilled
Matthew’s attempt at appeasement was unsuccessful. “Thomas, if I have a different opinion, we don’t have to fight it out like that”, he emphasized, visibly irritated. But Tuchel saw it completely differently.
In the press conference he continued his anti-expert tirade. “Should I quote Didi and Lothar?”asked he: “For a team without further development and with a poor internal relationship between coach and team, I would say it was quite okay.”
