Zoetermeer train stations under the microscope: these figures provide travelers

Some train passengers who get on or off at Zoetermeer, Zoetermeer Oost or Lansingerland-Zoetermeer stations have an opinion about this. NS and ProRail collected those opinions in the station experience monitor 2023. The three Zoetermeer stations have also received an assessment.

None of the three Zoetermeer train stations are in the top three of the most highly rated stations in the province of South Holland. The top three looks like this:

  • Rotterdam Central Station
  • Delft
  • Waddinxveen North

A Zoetermeer station is therefore not in the top three of the province. But apart from that, the stations also received a grade. They look like this:

  • Zoetermeer Station receives a 6.5 rating. In 2022 that was a 6.9.
  • Zoetermeer Oost Station receives a rating of 6.8. In 2022 that was a 7.4.
  • Lansingerland-Zoetermeer station receives a rating of 6.7. In 2022 that was a 7.3.

Conclusion: The ratings of all three train stations have fallen in one year. Read below for a possible explanation for the decline.

In 2023, travelers gave the station an average score of 7.21. The rating of stations has therefore fallen compared to the previous year (7.32). This is evident from the research carried out by Ipsos I&O on behalf of NS and ProRail. A total of 83,162 travelers were surveyed.

According to a spokesperson for NS, the decline can be explained by the fact that more travelers have been using the stations since the corona pandemic: “Stations have become busier, which affects the rating. During the corona years it was quiet at the station. The return of the commuter after a lot of working from home also influences the score. They are usually more critical of their station than travelers who are out for a day.”

The best and worst rated station

The most highly regarded station in the Netherlands is once again Klimmen-Ransdaal. This station on the South Limburg Heuvelland line received an 8.7 from travelers last year, achieving the highest score ever for a station since ratings have been measured.

Lage Zwaluwe station finished in last place with a 4.6. Despite improvements, such as renewal of the platform and lighting, travelers continue to find the station lacking in atmosphere.
