Zelensky: Ukrainian soldiers outnumbered in Severodonetsk

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky warns that Ukrainian troops are outnumbered in the besieged city of Severodonetsk. “We are standing, but there are more of them and they are stronger,” Zelensky told journalists in Kiev about the Russian army.

Severodonetsk is located in eastern Ukraine and has recently been the scene of fierce fighting between Russian and Ukrainian soldiers. It is the administrative capital of the Ukrainian part of Luhansk, which has been partly controlled by pro-Russian separatists since 2014. Moscow wants to take control of the Donbas region by taking the city.

The mayor of the city said on Monday that the Ukrainian army has enough clout to repel the Russian attacks. Luhansk’s governor said on Monday that the Russians have been pushed back and that the city has been divided in two. Previously, the Russians still occupied 70 percent of Severodonetsk.
