Zelensky demanded to exclude Russia from the UN Security Council

The President of Ukraine said that Russia is committing “war crimes” during the operation and such a country, in his opinion, cannot be in the Security Council. He also called for Russia to close access to all ports, canals and airports in the world.

Russia should be expelled from the UN Security Council because of its “war crimes” in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video message to the nation.

“A state that commits war crimes against civilians cannot be a member of the UN Security Council,” the president said. “Such states need to close the entrance to all ports, canals, airports around the world.”

In addition, such a state should not receive “hundreds of billions” for the export of energy resources, Zelensky stressed.

In an address published on February 25, Zelensky said that the sanctions imposed the day before “did not convince” Russia. “We defend our state alone. The most powerful forces of the world are watching from afar. Did yesterday’s sanctions convince Russia? We hear in our skies and we hear on our earth that this is not enough,” he argued.

Guide to sanctions and restrictions against Russia. The main thing

Since the beginning of the Russian military operation, the West has already introduced several packages of sanctions. A number of sectors of the Russian economy found themselves under the restrictions of the US, EU, UK and some other countries. In particular, banks VTB, Otkritie, Sovcombank, Promsvyazbank and Novikombank were actually cut off from the dollar system, Sberbank lost access to the US financial system. In addition, the US and the EU have imposed restrictions on the supply of technology to Russia in order to harm the defense sector, aircraft manufacturing, shipbuilding and other industries. Russia and dozens of countries have mutually closed their airspace to each other’s planes, and dozens of Russian officials, businessmen, employees of state television channels and the military have been sanctioned.

President Vladimir Putin, explaining the need for the operation, argued that its goal was the “denazification” and “demilitarization” of Ukraine. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the military would strike only at military infrastructure facilities and assured that civilians were not in danger.
