Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky continues to urge Western countries to supply fighter jets from Poland. That country offered to send a fleet of MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine via a US air base in Germany, but the United States does not agree.
The Pentagon has described the Polish plan as “untenable” and said the prospect of jets departing from a NATO base for Ukraine creates “serious concerns for the entire alliance”. Poland still wants aircraft to be delivered and now states that the entire NATO must make a decision.
Zelenski wants a decision to be taken quickly and says he is getting the discussion between the US and Poland about the Polish proposal through the media. “We don’t have time for the media, all these signals. This is not ping pong, these are human lives,” the president said in a video. “We ask you again to decide as soon as possible. Send us planes.”
