It must be admitted that Ukraine will not join NATO, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said, speaking via video link at a meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and representatives of countries that are part of the military Joint Expeditionary Force. The video was published by Zelensky’s office.

“Ukraine is not a member of NATO. We understand this, we are adequate people,” he said. Kyiv has heard about open doors for years, Zelensky said, but also realized that he “can’t go in there, and he has to admit it.”

On March 15, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, speaking at a meeting on ensuring national security, stated the need to achieve “in practice” the neutral status of Ukraine and exclude the possibility of its entry into NATO, reports TASS. He recalled that the Declaration on State Sovereignty of Ukraine, adopted in a referendum in 1990, enshrined its desire to become a permanently neutral state.
