Zehra Güneş, the successful midfielder of the National Team and VakıfBank, spoke to Milliyet. The young athlete talked about the argument he had with his teammate Gabi before the derby match and how it turned into a joke.
– Gabi became the first foreign captain in the club’s history, very successful… How would you describe him?
Gabi is very hardworking, very brave and very ambitious. Someone who really imposes too much on those next to him. When I started some games low, when I looked into his eyes, there were many games that I came back to. There is a joke especially between us. I think he is in Ankara at the World Championship. While we were playing with Fenerbahçe, we had a fight with Gabi. We both gave our best performance after every fight we had. Now, before every match, we say ‘Let’s fight, if we fight, it’s okay’ (Laughing)
– Is it hard to piss him off?
It’s not hard to get angry, but since he’s a perfectionist, if things don’t go well on the field, he has to fulfill his captain’s duties. That’s how it should be. On the field, my best friend, my normal friend, we shouldn’t get to know this. We are striving for a goal, and while striving for that goal, we have to say something as a warning to our neighbor. No one is offended, everyone is aware of everything. Since we can express these clearly, we can solve problems very easily at one point.
