The Tokio Hotel twins could host the new edition from December. What’s that about it?
Rumors are currently doing the rounds that there is something new on ZDF about the cult show “Wetten,dass..?” initiating. A new edition of the show is planned with a fresh moderation duo – namely the Tokio Hotel brothers Bill and Tom Kaulitz. How much truth is at play here?
Who says what?
On Monday, January 19, 2026, ZDF announced a collaboration with the twins. Towards late evening on the same day, the industry service “DWDL” reported that this was a new edition of the betting show.
In addition, details about the speculation have already been published: The siblings are to moderate the Saturday evening show for the first time at prime time on December 5th, 2026 – a good three years after the farewell of showmaster Thomas Gottschalk.
The broadcaster made the announcement regarding the collaboration with the brothers public via Instagram. Under a picture of the two of them it said: “The cat has put a few mice in front of our door! We are currently thinking about how the two of them can support us! Will they be the new experts at Bares for Rares? Will they take over the Gruberhof from the Bergdoktor? Will they investigate file number XY… unsolved? Or will they go on board as chief stewards on the dream ship?”
Here for the Instagram announcement:
Bill Kaulitz expressed himself mysteriously
Bill Kaulitz commented on the post, but kept a low profile. “I’m not saying anything, but it’s so hard for me to keep secrets,” the 36-year-old said in the post.
The two have made no secret of their ambitions to host the show, which is popular with fans, in the past. In 2023, immediately after Thomas Gottschalk’s departure, they showed interest in both their Netflix show “Kaulitz & Kaulitz” and in their joint podcast “Kaulitz Hills – Mustard from Hollywood”. They already know their way around the TV and series business: their reality series is running successfully and has achieved a certain cult status among fans. In this, the twins show more of their everyday life, their worries, thoughts and joys.
Possibly new concept for “Wetten, dass..?”
It is unlikely that everything will remain the same on the TV show. The Kaulitz twins already spoke in 2025 about wanting to develop a completely new concept: “A lot will happen by then, we will change a lot, we will sit down with ZDF,” said Tom Kaulitz, for example. So it remains to be seen whether the duo will revolutionize the classic show. If the speculations are confirmed in the future, fans indulging in nostalgia can look forward to new material on the show.
Review: Legendary “Bet, that..?” moments
Frank Stiller and his paper airplane bets: The “Paper Airplane Pope” has set spectacular records several times – including extremely long flight times. It is emblematic of the classic, bizarre betting spirit of the show.
Michael Jackson’s performance (1995): Michael Jackson made a surprise appearance on the show, introduced a charitable cause and caused an international stir. An accolade for the show.
The excavator bet with children (1999, “Driving an excavator by ear”): One candidate recognized the sound of the engine alone, which was being moved by several excavators – enhanced by children making additional noises. Absurd!
