While many professionals are showcasing themselves at the World Cup, those in charge at Borussia Dortmund are continuing to work on the new squad. BVB no longer has a lot of money at its disposal, and one position is apparently not (any longer?) in focus, somewhat surprisingly.
According to the “kicker”, behind the black and yellow scenes it can be heard that around ten million euros could be invested net this summer – without generating any income beforehand.
The background is the surprisingly early exit from the Champions League last season.
Accordingly, somewhat surprisingly, BVB is not looking for any reinforcements for the offensive wings – a position that has recently been repeatedly mentioned as one that the decision-makers want to upgrade in terms of personnel this summer.
Candidates like Jadon Sancho, who was publicly mentioned by several BVB officials as a possible newcomer, would probably be out of the race for the time being.
Instead, the focus should once again be on new additions to the headquarters, a little further forward on the eight, where Julian Brandt did most of his work, but also on the double six, it is said.
BVB lets expensive duo go – Özcan is also leaving
Brandt, like defender Niklas Süle, is leaving BVB when their contracts expire on June 30th. The departure of the two established employees will free up a significant amount of money in the salary budget.
Midfielder Salih Özcan’s contract will also not be extended.
There could be greater movement in the BVB squad if expensive departures become apparent. Serhou Guirassy and Karim Adeyemi are considered possible sales candidates.
Players like Nico Schlotterbeck, who is known to have a release clause, could attract interest from other clubs depending on their World Cup performances.
Joane Gadou (Red Bull Salzburg) and the South American talents Justin Lerma and Kaua Prates have so far been confirmed as new additions to BVB.
