Zara parent Inditex signs another supply agreement for environmentally friendly fibers

Spanish clothing group Industria de Diseño Textil SA (Inditex) has advanced its sustainability efforts with another supply agreement for environmentally friendly materials.

On Monday, the parent company of brands such as Zara, Massimo Dutti, Stradivarius, Pull & Bear and Bershka said it will take delivery of the first 2,000 tonnes of a new fiber made from a blend of viscose as part of an agreement with chemical group Tangshan Sanyou sustainable cultivation and circulosis. Circulose is a raw material developed by the Swedish recycling specialist Renewcell that is made from recycled cotton-containing textile waste.

Just last week, Inditex secured access to recycled polyester fibers through a strategic partnership with the US start-up Ambercycle. The group’s goal is to cover a quarter of its total fiber needs by 2030 with new, environmentally friendly materials that are not currently produced on an industrial scale.
