Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant reconnected to the power grid after two days | War Ukraine and Russia

The nuclear power plant occupied by the Russians – the largest in Europe – is currently not operational, but the power supply allows the reactors to be cooled and a nuclear accident is avoided.

The two cables had been damaged by Russian shelling in the Ukraine-controlled area around the nuclear power plant. The power supply was then ensured with diesel generators. The plant had fuel for fifteen days to run the generators, but now there is again external power.

In recent times, the nuclear power plant has been cut off from the power grid several times due to shelling. The IAEA has been asking for months to establish a safety zone around the complex to prevent a nuclear accident.
