Several radiation sensors were damaged in new shelling at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. This was announced by the Ukrainian operator Energoatom. “The situation is worsening, there are also radioactive substances nearby,” writes Energoatom on Telegram.

A few hours earlier, artillery was also fired in the direction of the safety zone around the nuclear power plant. Kiev and Moscow blamed each other for this. No one was injured. The nuclear power plant is the largest in Ukraine and Europe.

“Today the nuclear power plant is in the hands of uneducated people, a tragedy lurks around the corner,” said Ukrainian Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky. “It is difficult to predict how bad the consequences could be.”

Ukraine had recently warned about a Chernobyl scenario. “We have to be prepared for anything. The question of whether evacuations are necessary arises,” it sounds.

The nuclear power plant has been the target of bomb attacks twice in the past week. The violence of war in the area is causing great concern in the international community about a possible nuclear disaster. The United States is calling for the site to be turned into a demilitarized zone.
