Zalando launches capsule with Nikolaj Storm

Zalando and Nikolaj Storm, winner of the fashion online retailer’s Sustainability Award in August 2021, are launching a capsule collection with circular designs.

Inspired by neon colors and the sound of electro and techno beats, as well as the crackling noise of nylon, the 13-piece gender-neutral Synthesizer capsule is made entirely of synthetic fibers, Zalando announced on Thursday. The aim of the designer is to change the perception of synthetics. Some of the materials used in the collection include recycled polyester and Lycra T400, a stretchy type of polyester fiber.

“The use of synthetic fibers makes the garments durable and allows them to be recycled repeatedly without degrading the quality of the product,” says Storm. “The fibers allow for richer colors and better durability, so the clothing doesn’t lose its shape – a reason why it’s used in sportswear.”

However, the collection aims not only to change the perception of synthetic fabrics, but also to show how circular design methods have been implemented in each phase of the product lifecycle in this collection, according to the release. For this purpose, each product in the capsule is accompanied by a report from the sustainability consultancy Anthesis. Strom’s designs were made by the agency Circular Fashion according to the criteria of circularity and meet at least the minimum requirements of the criteria, according to Berlin sources.
