Zakharova announced the meeting of Blinken and Lavrov in the near future

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken may meet in Europe soon, informed Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the air of the Rossiya 1 TV channel.

“I can really confirm that such a meeting between the heads of the foreign affairs agencies of Russia and the United States is now under active consideration,” she said.

The meeting could take place on January 21 in Geneva, informed “Kommersant”.

Earlier, Lavrov and Blinken had a telephone conversation. The Secretary of State noted that it is impossible to discuss security issues without European partners, including Ukraine, and NATO allies. He noted that the parties need to achieve a de-escalation of tensions around the “build-up of Russian troops” near Ukraine. This should be done through diplomacy, he said.
