Zakharova announced the completion of Russia’s preparation of responses to NATO and the United States

The preparation of Russia’s response to the US and NATO counter-proposals regarding security guarantees is at the final stage. About it reported official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova in Telegram.

Earlier, Minister Sergei Lavrov promised to publish responses to the counter-proposals of the United States and the North Atlantic Alliance on security guarantees and said that they were almost ready. The Washington Post wrote about Washington’s request to Russia not to make public the documents received.

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the head of state conceptually approved the draft response of the Foreign Ministry.

In mid-December 2021, the Russian Foreign Ministry handed over draft agreements on security guarantees to the United States and NATO. Among the points of these agreements, in particular, the non-expansion of NATO to the east at the expense of the countries of the former USSR, including Ukraine, and the refusal to deploy weapons near the borders with Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke of the need to obtain “precisely legal, legal guarantees,” since the West did not fulfill its verbal obligations. In particular, that NATO will not expand to the east at the expense of Ukraine and Georgia.
