The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, advised the Germans to breathe less. So she reacted to the call of the head of the German Ministry of Agriculture, Cem Ozdemir, to give up meat to fight Russia.
“And this (refusal of meat as a contribution to the fight against Russia. — RBC) is only part of the truth. It’s a pity he didn’t tell the Germans everything to the end: they still need to breathe less, which would be a contribution to protecting the environment, and, well, against Russia. So to speak”, – wrote Zakharov in his Telegram channel.
Ozdemir said that reducing German consumption of meat will help counter Moscow’s policy, since Russia is using food supplies as a weapon in the current situation around Ukraine. “Despite the fact that I am a vegetarian, I will not preach that everyone should go vegetarian. But let’s put it this way: eating less meat would be a contribution against [президента России Владимира] Putin,” he said in an interview with Spiegel magazine.

Prior to this, German Economic Development Minister Robert Habek said that the country needs to reduce its dependence on Russian energy resources. According to Habek, the country intends to become independent of Russian coal by autumn, and by the end of 2022, almost independent of Russian oil. At the same time, he admitted that it would be more difficult to get rid of dependence on Russian gas, since Germany does not have its own capacities for importing LNG.
