Zahavi remains loyal to Götze-Klub PSV

Despite two burglaries in his apartment last year, Israeli soccer player Eran Zahavi now wants to stay with Dutch leaders PSV Eindhoven.

Eindhoven’s German coach Roger Schmidt announced the 34-year-old’s change of heart. Accordingly, contrary to original considerations, Zahavi will at least fulfill his contract with the club of former German world champion Mario Götze, which runs until the end of the season.

“Eran was given time to think about everything. He got over the shock. He wants to continue playing at PSV. His family is also behind it. Together they decided that he would stay. He feels honored to play for PSV, and I don’t want to leave the club in that way,” said Schmidt at the club’s press conference ahead of the away game at FC Groningen.

In the previous month, Zahavi’s house in the Buitenveldert district of Amsterdam was broken into for the second time. The burglars caused great damage. There were no residents in the house at the time of the burglary because the family was accompanying Zahavi to Dubai for rehabilitation after suffering a knee injury. Last May, when Zahavi’s house was robbed, his wife and children were abused by the criminals. In both cases, the police have not yet been able to find the perpetrators.

“Nightmare” for Zahavi’s family

In Zahavi’s home, newspapers recently reported that Zahavi’s family was severely shocked after the second burglary. That is why there is said to have been an early departure from Eindhoven in the meantime.

“It was a nightmare for the family,” said Schmidt: “We try to support him as much as possible.”

Zahavi is now back in PSV team training. However, the attacker has not yet fully recovered and will therefore not play again in Groningen on Sunday. “Eran is concentrating on PSV. He’s doing everything to be able to play again as soon as possible,” Schmidt reported from training: “He definitely wants to make a contribution to success and become champions.”
