Zaankanter Cees has a solution for the Zwarte Piet discussion

One more week and then it’s finally Christmas Eve. The students of primary school De Kroos duiker in Westzaan are already ready. Tradition depends on the recent years along with discussion and division. Cees van Drimmelen from Zaandijk is a fan of the Sinterklaas celebration and wants it to revolve around the children again. He wrote a book containing the solution to the Zwarte Piet discussion.

A few weeks ago, protesters of the action group ‘Zaankanters Against Racism’ were still pelted with eggs during the entry into Westzaan. The action group demonstrated because there were also completely Black Petes among the soot sweepers. Writer Cees van Drimmelen is done with it. “What bothers me the most is that people don’t argue but try to convince each other of their opinion.”

Van Drimmelen is a fan of Sinterklaas and would like it to be all about children and fun again. He wrote the book The big secret of Sinterklaas in which he came up with a solution. ”In the story, the Pieten stay in Spain and help the children with the entry.” According to Cees, the people who have read the book are very enthusiastic. “They say to me: You came up with the solution!”

The big secret of Sinterklaas is full of surprising twists. For example, Sinterklaas appears to have a twin brother, Sint Bernard. The most striking thing is that the Pieten remain in Spain. The children Bart from Friesland and Fleur from Cameroon have been chosen to help on the parcel boat during the entry.

Group 4 of primary school De Kroos duiker listened attentively when Cees read the story. Most students were not so happy that the Pieten would stay in Spain from now on. On the other hand, most are eager to help Sinterklaas from now on.
