It has become quite a riot: Marc-Marie Huijbregts has suggested in his showbiz podcast that Bastiaan Ragas is an alcoholic. His literal words: “I have the idea – well, of course you can never say that out loud – (suddenly starts to whisper, ed.) that he drinks a lot too. But I don’t know.”

Ordinary gossip

Yvonne Coldeweijer thinks that’s hypocritical, because Marc-Marie constantly says that his podcast is above the juice channels and is positive. “But this is just plain gossip! This is not even with a source and he has not done an adversarial. All those people are accusing me of doing it themselves.”

Where Yvonne never runs away from her juice, Marc-Marie is now trying to get out of his own statements. The comedian suddenly pretends he never said it all, but Bastiaan himself easily sees through that.

Bingo card

You can make a bingo card of the reflexes that celebrities shoot into when their pithy statements suddenly cause a stir. ‘You have to hear it in context!’, they say. Or, “It was irony!” And otherwise the clincher: ‘It has been taken out of context!’. Etcetera, etcetera. But just admit it? That is often not the case.

Marc-Marie is also guilty of this. He did not call Bastiaan an alcoholic at all, he says. no! He only suggested it. Ah, then it’s good…

Attacked

Marc-Marie therefore thinks it is unfair that Yvonne rebukes him. “It is really very special, I think: I was approached by none other than Yvonne Coldeweijer that I would go too far,” he says with a laugh in his podcast.Marc-Marie and Jan are not afraid of anyone‘.

He continues: “Sorry, I don’t want to harm anyone else, especially Yvonne Coldeweijer and her family, but I think it’s quite a bit that she says I go too far when I say something about Bastiaan Ragas. I did not say about Bastiaan Ragas that he was an alcoholic. I have never used the word alcoholic.”

Well apologies

Here Marc-Marie shoots in that standard reflex. “I said that I had the impression that he drank quite a lot. Well, I would like to say to Bastiaan that maybe that was stupid of me to say. I want to apologize.” Ah, Marc-Marie didn’t say it all, but he still sees reason for apologies.

Co-host Jan Uriot: “Bastiaan drinks a lot of beers in that program (Race Across The World, ed.) And we talked about that for a while. It is of course true that Yvonne points out that we have always communicated that we are a friendly and nice podcast. She says: ‘That Marc-Marie is not so nice anymore.’”

Sweet juice

Marc-Marie then lashes out at Yvonne’s juice. “No, we always think: we make sweet and tasty juice, and Yvonne makes a bit of that juice that you think (makes a dirty face and makes small noises, ed.): I won’t take that a second time. She makes such a juice.”

Then he calls Bastiaan, after which Marc-Marie performs his play again: “I just want to say to you, Bastiaan, that I never mentioned the word alcoholic.”

‘Of all people!’

Then why is he calling? Marc-Marie: “To say sorry I suggested…” Quickly improves: “Somehow people think I suggested… That Yvonne Coldeweijer or all people thinks I went too far, while yes… Yvonne Coldeweijer, let’s be honest… I thought: well, I really want to make a phone call.”

Bastiaan hits the mark with his reaction: “Well, I think that is very sporting of you. That it will immediately be in the podcast! That it is so sincere! I really like that.”

To research

After the telephone conversation with Bastiaan, Marc-Marie deals one last blow to Yvonne. “Yvonne Coldeweijer should have herself examined once in a while, because it is really strange that she thinks I go too far when I say that, while God knows what she says…”

“I think we can close with that.”
