The second regional final of the municipality of Westerwolde of the National Reading Competition was held this afternoon at the Meet in Bellingwolde.
The first regional final was won last night by Senna van Klinken from De Klimop primary school in Ter Apelkanaal. Yvonne Wiering from Jipsingboertange is also one round further.
Nice use of voice
The 11-year-old student from group 8 of Plaggenborg primary school from Jipsinghuizen received the most points from the jury members, Alderman Wietze Potze of the municipality of Westerwolde, speech therapist Margreet Huiting and former civil servant Simonet Schroot. The jury is impressed by Yvonne’s performance. “You read very clearly, calmly and with a pleasant voice. That really appealed to us.”
Unanimous decision
Chairman Wietze Potze of the jury said that all three jury members put Yvonne’s name at the top of the list. “A unanimous decision, something we have never experienced before.”
Seven reading champions from schools in Bellingwolde, Blijham, Wedde, Sellingen, Bourtange and Jipsinghuizen read an excerpt from their favorite book.
Semi-final in the Meet
Nynke de Boer from the Oosterschool in Bellingwolde finished second. She is the first backup in case Yvonne is unexpectedly unable to attend on March 20. Then the semi-finals of the province of Groningen of the National Reading Competition will be held in the Meet in Bellingwolde. The stake is a ticket for the provincial final that will take place in Veendam on April 17.
The best reader in Groningen will participate in the national final on May 22 in Tivoli in Utrecht.
