YouTuber and music entrepreneur Jamal Edwards has died

Jamal Edwards is dead. Edwards is credited with discovering musicians from the grime scene such as StormyZ, JME, J Hus and Krept & Konan. They became known to a wider public on his YouTube channel SBTV. The YouTuber has now passed away at the age of 31. Nothing is publicly known about the cause of death.

Edwards is the son of British actress and singer Brenda Edwards and grew up in London. As a teenager, Edwards founded his own YouTube channel, SBTV. In addition to newcomers, established artists also performed there. Pop stars like Ed Sheeran and Jessie J also helped to achieve a career breakthrough by appearing at Edwards. Founded in 2006, the channel now has 1.2 million subscribers on YouTube.

Linda Edwards told the BBC she was devastated by the passing of her son. Several musicians also took to social media to express their sadness at Edwards’ untimely death.

British rapper Lady Leshurr wrote on Twitter: “Rest in peace Jamal Edwards. Sending love, thoughts and prayers to you, your family, your friends and your fans.” Rapper Adam Deacon said of Edwards that he was one of the nicest, most down to earth and humble people he met in the industry.
