Although Youp van ‘t Hek is a welcome guest in Eva Jinek’s talk show – he was still there last Monday – this week he is in his VARAgids-column quite critical of the presenter. He thinks that she failed quite a bit last Monday when Vladimir Putin announced his war and she had Prime Minister Mark Rutte at the table.

Youp stunned

It was surreal how long Mark kept talking while the viewers at home were mainly concerned with Putin’s declaration of war, Youp thinks. “You would think: our prime minister might have had something else on his mind at the time. (…) But nope. He sat comfortably in his cozy talking chair.”

Op1 had a mop orchestra in view at the same time. “I was stunned. That both talk shows hadn’t completely turned their tables because something very disturbing is going on. A war that will also affect us. Why can’t an editor like that switch quickly?”, he writes in the VARA guide.

Fan of Lubach

It is a good thing that Arjen Lubach is now here with his already successful Evening Show, says Youp. “Fortunately, Arjen Lubach was sitting right in front of all this broadcasting outfit with his first Evening Show. And it was right away. Fast, funny, sharp, current and very smart. The combination of seriousness and cheerfulness splashed off the screen.”

“You can taste the fun of the editors and what I always like about Lubach is that they don’t shy away from silly jokes. (…) All talk shows will have a hard time from now on because of the Evening Show. You feel that in everything. A slender speedboat in a bay with too bulky tankers. Tankers filled with syrup.”
