Youp van ‘t Hek regrets performing at VI: ‘Not my show’

Youp van ‘t Hek regrets that he took place among the men of VI last summer. The talk show of Johan Derksen and René van der Gijp simply does not suit him, according to the comedian.

The program of the men of VI cannot really appeal to comedian Youp van ‘t Hek. He was still at the table there last year, when the gentlemen made the spin-off De Oranjezomer. “No, I’m not a fan of it. I’ve been to them once, but then I didn’t like it,” he says in the program Sven on 1

Youp is sorry

Youp definitely did not feel at home there. “Then I sat there and they immediately started destroying Louis van Gaal in a way that they had done fifty times before and I sat there and I’m not that anti-Louis van Gaal at all. On the contrary, I think he is a nice man.”

It felt more and more uncomfortable, according to the comedian. “I sat there and thought: what am I doing here? I thought: I actually have nothing to look for here and then I regretted: why did I go? It’s not my program.”

candle story

During the candle riot Youp turned against Johan Derksen. How does he look back on that now? “I liked that comment or that joke or that story by Johan Derksen… I really sat listening to that with chattering ears. I thought it was a very bad story, a pub story that is only believed if you have been drinking a lot.”

He continues: “Then you must have emptied almost half the Heineken to a) start telling those kinds of stories and b) to laugh about it. But to cancel someone immediately afterwards… Let everyone yell and scream. I’m one of those screamers too.”
