Youp van ‘t Hek bashes celebrity show Meilandjes: ‘Disabled TV!’

Youp van ‘t Hek lashes out in an unprecedentedly fierce way at the new celebrity show of the Meilandjes. He thinks it’s really inferior television. “This is for the mentally handicapped!”

It is striking how much criticism Martien Meiland and his family receive for their new program in which they receive celebrity duos in their guest house. The first episode with Caroline van der Plas and John de Bever got off to an excellent start; last week the episode with Patty Brard and a B&B Vol Liefde candidate attracted 100 thousand fewer viewers.

Disabled TV

Are we going to see a downward trend? Chateau Meiland VIPS has a relatively boring guest duo on the air tonight: Viktor Brand and Sylvia ‘who?’ Geersen. In any case, the person who won’t be watching is Youp van ‘t Hek.

Youp thinks this is really poor television, as he shows in his column in the VARA guide. “I zapped past a piece of Meiland hysteria. There was our unbeatable Caroline VIP. Together with a certain John de Bever. I saw her making pottery in a program created for mentally handicapped preschoolers.”

Shameless

It is truly incredible that SBS 6 dares to broadcast these types of images, says Youp. “Once again shameless images. That gorgeous Caroline was covered in clay.”

The comedian advises to pull the plug. “The completely exhausted Meiland family made a desperate attempt to resemble the Meiland family from that French castle two centuries ago. But the cake is more than finished.”

Dairy cow

Youp doesn’t understand who likes this. “I know: this kind of television is not made for me. But for whom? The Meiland family doesn’t want it anymore. They pull despondently at the milked cow. It is pathetic. For the makers, the viewers, but especially for the Meilandjes themselves.”

“Tip from me? Everyone get really drunk, burn down that hotel and disappear. Maybe there is still a house for rent from that Peter Gillis. And that Caroline can then go back to her work. Wasn’t that something in the House of Representatives?”
