Big surprise for the floor gymnastics: The German youth champion Daniel Mousichidis was crowned the men’s title holder on Saturday (July 8th, 2023).
When the golden result appeared on the scoreboard, the just 18-year-old was completely perplexed. A brief smile flitted across his face from time to time, then replaced by a shake of the head.
Waldemar Eichorn’s protégé couldn’t really believe what had just become reality: With 13.966 points he had won the competition in Düsseldorf and won his first title in the men’s category.
Silver for Eder, Wörz gets bronze
With a class freestyle on the floor, the 2022 European Youth Champion in Munich gave his opponents no chance: Timo Eder achieved silver with 13.600 points, Daniel Wörz (13.333) secured bronze.
Daniel Wörz just missed out on the podium (13.066), the medal candidates Nils Matache and Nick Klessing fell and ended up in fifth and sixth place.
Mia Neumann jumps to gold
In the women’s jumping competition, the spectators in Düsseldorf then saw exciting competition. Gold went to Mia Neumann from Dresdner SC after two worthwhile attempts, alongside her on the podium were Karina Schönmaier with silver after a somewhat shaky landing and Salina Bousmayo, who was happy with bronze.
For Mia Neumann, the title was a premiere, Karina Schönmaier missed the gold chance when she made a mistake in her favorite jump.
Mousichidis also wins the pommel horse
Inspired by gold on the floor, Daniel Mousichidis then added the next gold on the pommel horse a good half hour later, almost with the identical result from his floor routine. 13.900 points were enough to win the title with a lead of three tenths ahead of Pascal Brendel and Nils Dunkel (13.533).
