A group of young people threw eggs from a viaduct over the Rondweg in Emmen last night. When the police approached the group, the youths fled. Taxi driver Flora van der Markt got the eggs on her car, among other things. “Where’s your mind?”
Van der Markt from Emmen still cannot comprehend it a day later. Last night she was driving home from her shift as a taxi driver when, out of nowhere, eggs were thrown on her windshield. While talking to her colleague on the phone behind the wheel, she sees someone standing on the Nieuw-Amsterdamsestraat viaduct. “I steered into the right lane and then I saw a person moving along and walking to the right. ‘He’s going to jump’, I thought.”
A few seconds later, a bang on her windshield. “Then I saw that something had been thrown on my car. Fortunately, I was able to look right past it and fortunately I had the clarity of mind not to use the wipers. Otherwise the entire window would be under it and I could no longer see anything.”
The initial shock gives way to anger. “How do you come up with this? Then you don’t have a stitch, but a complete fuse box loose. Total madness this.”
After calling the police, she drives to the nearest gas station and removes the egg slurry from her windshield. “Fortunately I was able to clean it. But where is your mind? You would just take your partner to the hospital. Then your thoughts are somewhere else entirely and you pull the steering wheel out of fear. Then it can turn out very differently. “
Around three o’clock last night, the police received four reports of young people throwing eggs from a viaduct in Emmen. A little later, the police went to the viaduct with a car, after which the young people fled on two scooters.
“When we drove behind the scooters, we showed a stop sign, but that was ignored,” says a police spokesperson. The young people then drove on towards the Bargeres district, where one of the scooter riders fell. The driver also managed to flee this place, but the police have possession of the scooter. “We will talk to the owner of the scooter.”
