Gerald Vanenburg, a former international, came to the Rood-Wit Veldhoven sports park on Friday evening. The mostly younger football fans did not recognize him, but that changed when one YouTube star or influencer after another walked towards the changing rooms. They all participated without obligation in a benefit competition for the victims of the earthquake in Morocco.

From Vanenburg to former goalkeeper Khalid Sinouh and from rapper ICE to social media celebrity Koen Zitoen: they all came to Veldhoven. “In just under two weeks we have secured very nice names for this competition. We were even a bit surprised that we received so many ‘yes’ answers,” said organizer Jawad Foujay. “It is not important whether they can play football well, their commitment and presence is already wonderful. Just like us, they want to contribute to a good cause.”

According to co-organizer Rachid Chelah, it is most likely not limited to this benefit competition. “We are proud of what we have achieved this evening. If everything goes well, we will soon organize something very big.”

“So cool to see those celebrities in real life.”

The few hundred spectators had a great time around the main field in Veldhoven. They were there mainly to catch a glimpse of the stars. “We think it’s so cool to see all these celebrities in real life. Influencer ISAE in particular is the reason we are here. Hopefully we can take a picture with him afterwards,” said Job (12) from Veldhoven together with his friends. Guus, Robin and Chris.

Rachid (11) from Eindhoven is a fan of Rarko, who can regularly be seen in videos by YouTube phenomenon Soufiane Touzani. “Rarko is so funny, he always makes me laugh. He is also quite good, but his condition is not good,” he says laughing.

“It’s terrible what happened in Morocco.”

Nobody cared about football. The players and spectators were all about having fun, but of course the necessary pannas were not to be missed. Eredivisie referee Kevin Blom thought it was an honor to referee the match. “Of course I can’t say no to such a great initiative. It’s terrible what happened in Morocco. I have a lot of Moroccan friends and know how people live. If I can help by blowing the whistle here, I’d be happy to do so.” .”
