Nationally, almost 9 percent of Dutch young people receive youth care, figures further show. This amounts to 394,000 young people out of a total of 4.5 million Dutch people who fall into the age group (up to 23 years).
This share of youth care clients is highest in Tiel (16.8 percent), Terneuzen (14.5 percent) and Krimpen aan den IJssel (13.5 percent) in South Holland. This percentage is lowest on Vlieland (3.1 percent). This is followed by Urk (3.8 percent), Staphorst (4.3 percent) and Ameland (4.4 percent).
The regional differences have various causes. Socio-economic circumstances play a role, but also policy choices that municipalities make when organizing youth care.
By far the most young people receive youth care that falls under the category ‘youth care’. Examples of this are young people with behavioral problems or young people with parents who have difficulty raising children.
