‘Young people at risk are sliding into crime, Helmond-West frontrunner’

110 young people living in Helmond-West are at risk of slipping into drug crime. This makes the Helmond district the highest score of all districts in the Netherlands. This is apparent from research by RTL Nieuws, which is based on figures from the Vist op Ondermijning platform.

View of Undermining has been commissioned by governments to conduct data research into criminal undermining and to examine the extent to which young people have similarities with the profile of drug suspects who have come into contact with the police. For example, the risk appears to be greater in early school leavers or young people who have previously been in contact with Bureau Halt.

The at-risk youth sometimes progress to organized crime and become involved in liquidations and extortion.

The city centers of Helmond (13 percent, 270 young people at risk) and Helmond East (10.1 percent, 130 young people at risk) also score high. Because there are hardly any problem young people living in other neighborhoods, such as the new-build neighborhood of Brandevoort, Helmond scores an average of 7.2.

Roosendaal
That is the same as Roosendaal, where Roosendaal-North is at the top with 10.2 percent. Bergen op Zoom is third in Brabant (7 percent).

The municipal council of Helmond is trying to tackle the problems in the West district with various projects. For example, we work together with schools and parents. “This has not yet led to structurally managing the problems that these at-risk youth and their families are dealing with,” says alderman Cathalijne Dortmans. against RTL News
