Tyler (42) and Sarah Schmidt (42) were camping with their daughter Lula (6) at the Maquoketa Caves State Park Campground. The Cedar Falls family was found dead in their tent shortly after a shooting was reported. The police then combed the entire campsite. Only the shooter was unknown, but he had already committed suicide.
The 23-year-old Anthony Sherwin had no connection with the Schmidt family, and the police are still in the dark about his motive. Sherwin was from Nebraska, and it is as yet unknown whether he had to deal with mental problems, for example. In Iowa you can easily get a firearm, but the police are still trying to find out if he had permission to own one.
