In two promotion/relegation matches against Almere City FC under 21, Jong Volendam must ensure enforcement in the second division. “We play for self-preservation and believe that we belong in the second division,” said trainer Kiki Musampa.
The first game is tomorrow evening at 8 p.m. in Almere. The return will follow on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Volendam. “I expect that we will meet a motivated Almere. They defeated very well in the final for the national championship Feyenoord Under 21 years. We have a good feeling. We have won the last three games in the second division”, Musampa continues.
That Jong Volendam has to play p/d duels is remarkable, because it finished in eleventh place in the second division and therefore not in the lower regions. However, the rule in the second division is that a U23 team must finish in the top nine. “We have put in a great performance this season by finishing eleventh. Regulations fail to reward that,” says Musampa.
First team players
They are not completely reassured in Volendam after all. The second division rules apply to Jong Volendam. That is, if a player has played more than seven matches in the first, they are excluded from Jong Volendam. Those rules do not apply to the Almere City O21 team, but only the age limit of 21 years. This allows the residents of Almere to play with a strong vanguard, for example.
Musampa content in Volendam
Musampa became trainer of Jong FC Volendam during the winter break after Johan Plat became assistant coach at PEC Zwolle. It was recently announced that Musampa will also be the trainer of the Volendam talents next season. “We were quick. I like it very much in Volendam.”
