Young farmers react cautiously to the nitrogen agreement

The farmers react cautiously, the texts have not yet been published. But it is certain that the requirements – also for young farmers – remain firm. But at least a budget is provided for the sector. In total, this concerns about 3.6 billion euros, part of which goes to efforts to reduce nitrogen emissions.

DECREE WILL BE WAITING

But the farmers can’t get started with the new policy right away, because a decree will have to wait until 2025. So no new permits will be granted for small expansions for at least another two years.

Young farmer Nicolas Dehaemers: “For many colleagues, the question really is: ‘When is it enough?’. We have already made a lot of efforts in the past as a sector. We will have to make a lot of efforts in the future.”
But he realizes like no other that the efforts remain necessary: ​​”On the other hand, we also realize as a sector that the only way forward is the sustainable way,” concludes the young farmer.
