Bern is still in first place in the table. But the Swiss club recently suffered two defeats – those responsible have now reacted to this.
The Swiss soccer champions Young Boys Bern have separated from coach Raphael Wicky. The league leaders drew the conclusions from the recent weak phase with three defeats in the last seven games. In the league, Bern is only one point ahead of Servette Geneva.
“After careful consideration, we have come to the conclusion that the situation is deadlocked and the team needs fresh energy in order to be able to take the challenging path back to success,” said sports director Christoph Spycher, a former Bundesliga professional at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Wicky, also a former Bundesliga player (Bremen, HSV), had been a coach in Bern since 2022 and led the club into the Champions League with the championship title. There, YB finished third in RB Leipzig’s group and then failed in the Europa League against Sporting Lisbon.
