It was not a nice afternoon in Volendam for Young Ajax. Despite the early lead, the Amsterdam promises never had a grip on the game and they lost 3-1. “It was insufficient on our part,” says trainer John Heitinga.
Heitinga hoped that after the 0-1 in the third minute, his team would gain grip and control over the game. However, he said that was not the case. He speaks of a “dull and boring game” for his team.
In the fortieth minute, Enric Llansana of Jong Ajax received a red card. He hit the breakthrough Robert Mühren. “I think Mühren is doing it very smartly. He knows if he lies down, there is a good chance that the referee will draw red,” says Heitinga.
Young Ajax is seventh in the first division with 59 points from 35 matches. In theory, the Amsterdammers can still finish third. The lead on NAC Breda, which is eighth, is seven points.
