You are not allowed to drill and the kitchen is not your taste, but this is how you can turn a rented house into your own place | Living

ask vtwonenIf you live in a rented house, or are planning to move there soon, then you are probably bound by a number of rules from a landlord when it comes to furnishing. How do you turn your house into a home if you are not allowed to drill into the walls or are stuck with a kitchen that is not your taste?

Check what rules there are
To prevent you from losing your deposit or having to return a lot to its original condition when you leave your home, it is wise to check what is and what is not allowed in your home. Under the motto ‘no you have and yes you can get’ you can discuss any change plans with your landlord.

Perhaps he or she is open to making the home safer or more practical and even contributes to it in order to increase the value of the home. Keep in mind that it is not your house and that major adjustments that lead to a higher home value are especially nice for the landlord and do not give you any financial benefit.

Tackle the basics
Also take a good look at the basis of your rental home. What color are the walls, woodwork and floor? Even if the walls and ceilings are white, refresh them or paint them your favorite color. Especially in an old rented house, the impact of a freshly painted ceiling can be great. And it’s easy to paint over when you move again.

Do you like color, but your landlord doesn’t let you paint the walls? You can solve that with a striking color sofa or other large piece of furniture. Or place an open cupboard that you fill with colored, beloved accessories so that the wall still gets colored accents. With removable adhesive nails you can still hang those picture frames. And don’t forget that window coverings also make a big difference to the atmosphere in your home. Check whether drilling is allowed in the frames.

If you don’t like the floor, invest in a nice large rug with which you cover a part, which you can also take with you when you move. If you don’t have a rug big enough to cover that miserable floor, you can consider installing another floor in the living room – the place where you spend the most time – after consultation with your landlord, of course. Extend that floor to the hall, after all, that is the place where you come home. There is nothing more annoying than coming home to a room with a floor that immediately irritates you. Ugly tiles can be covered with tile stickers that are also easy to remove. Tile stickers are custom-made and available in different price ranges. Kitchen cabinets get a personal touch by replacing the handles. And clean your house thoroughly before you move in. That is not only hygienic, but also gives that fresh, new feeling.

Choose a device that you can take with you
Your house is clean, the basics are in place. You can now proceed with the furnishing. And it really doesn’t have to be just low budget for a rental home. Instead, invest in furniture that you can move with you and that will make you very happy. In a standard kitchen with fixed elements you can easily place beautiful equipment, such as a beautifully designed kitchen or coffee machine. They pick up the total picture immediately. Indoor plants literally bring life to the brewery. You can then further decorate the room with accessories that you like. You can also decorate the bathroom in this way. Think of a beautiful shower curtain, a bath mat and matching bathroom accessories.
