There is a buzz around the Stop Nyqvist series again.
Over
In the spring, Iltalehti wrote how Yle shelved its million-dollar production, Stop the Nyqvist series. Finally, after a delay, the series became available to watch and it was quite well received.
The series has now been short-listed for the international and prestigious Golden Rose award gala. In the same drama series category, many successful HBO and Netflix series are nominated, such as Succession and Bastion of power. However, Yle has not announced this candidacy in any way. This has caused astonishment in the industry, as the Golden Rose is a very prestigious award.
Yle’s communications manager Anne-Mari Rajala says that Yle has a more detailed model for informing candidates.
– The principle is that nominations are not generally announced. The awards will be announced in a press release. Internally, the nominations are brought forward.
According to Rajala, Yle’s social media channels sometimes talk about nominations in appropriate contexts.
– We have refined our operating model. There are quite a lot of wishes, can you inform me? We have thought about what the principles are. And, of course, equality must be taken into account, so that there will be no regrets, why someone else has been mentioned as a candidate and someone else has not.
Stop Nyqvist is an eight-part satirical comedy about Russia’s hybrid operation against Finland. Originally, the series was supposed to be published in May, but Yle postponed the publication due to the war in Ukraine.
This caused outrage among the creators of the series.
– Spectators are underestimated. Yle is afraid that the viewers will perceive the series as intentional intimidation, one of the creators of the series told Iltalehte in the spring.
Over
Stop Nyqvist is Yle’s own production. According to information from Iltalehti, the series has cost around three million euros.
The Golden Rose (also known as the Golden Rose of Montreaux) is perhaps the most prestigious international award for television and radio programs. The prize is awarded annually at a gala of the same name.
A Finnish television program has won the Golden Rose only once.
This happened in 1965, when Ylen Lumilinna won both the Golden Rose, i.e. the main prize, and the press prize.
The so-called VEK team, which included Lumilinna, was responsible for the script and direction Jukka Virtanen, Treasure Aug and Matti Kuusla.
