Ylermi Rajamaa has always wanted to compartmentalize

Actor Ylermi Rajamaa makes music, but he doesn’t demand responsibility for results in that field. In the future, he plans to make another territorial conquest.

Actor Ylermi Rajamaan, 42, finds it difficult to remember the moment when he decided he wanted to be an actor. Somewhere around the teenage years, it just got brighter.

– It may have been brewing for a longer time that I want to be involved with theater and film, but it hasn’t been clear that as an actor. I may have thought that I want to direct, write or make music, for example, Rajamaa reflects.

It has been important to Rajamaa that he gets to express himself both on theater stages and in front of the camera.

– They balance each other. It’s also about the internal volume knob. The same emotions are raging, but with how loud you let it out, Rajamaa describes.

Rajamaa aims for something new Risto Räppääja and the wild machine -film, in which he once again jumps into the role of Lennart Lindberg. Rajamaa is happy that thanks to the clever plot, there was really enough to act in the film.

Despite the unsettled weather, the sun was finally found in the musical comedy’s pictures, and the filming in public places was also canceled. Rajamaa knows that they sometimes cause problems.

– Sometimes someone doesn’t necessarily know that they are acting and filming. A spontaneous answer might be heard from the other balcony, Rajamaa enlivens.

Rajamaa will also be seen in December premiere You screamin the movie. This spring, he continues the Helsinki City Theatre My friend the pelican – in the main part of the show. Recently, there have been many works aimed at the whole family.

What is it like acting with children?

– They are individuals. Take Törmälä (Risto Räppääja) and Meri Lahikainen (Nelli Nuudelipää) easily learn the secrets of making a film and they are sunny personalities. Children are colleagues, just like others, says Rajamaa.

He thinks that when thinking about movies for the whole family, it’s not a disadvantage that he is sensitive to rioting himself.

Not in the compartment

Then there is music, which has always rhythmed Rajamaa’s life.

– Music and theater are both my passions. Music is one area where I don’t require it to be paid work. That’s the more experimental side, Rajamaa says.

His band Plutonium 74 has been around for twenty years. Sometimes a quiet life has been spent.

– It’s a bit of a marginal mood. You can try everything there, says Rajamaa.

Rajamaa has also experienced compartmentalization. It is sometimes debated whether he is now an actor or a musician.

– You hear it at regular intervals. Once one person even said that you know that at some point you have to choose which one you are: a musician or an actor.

– I can’t really tell them apart in my case. They are different means of expression, but both tell stories. If that makes me hard to compartmentalize, then so be it. I can’t choose one or the other, and I don’t intend to do so, says Rajamaa.

Plutonium 74’s music is not easy to compartmentalize either. According to Rajamaa, there are nuances of rap, pop, dub and reggae as well.

– However, it is not directly any of those. Sometimes we think about even finding an answer to that genre question. We developed something like a wistful maritime groove, says Rajamaa.

At the moment, the band is waking up from its winter sleep.

In the field of music, Rajamaa has his own projects and occasionally collaborates with other artists.

Laine Kasperin, a rapper recently heard in Rajamaata Damn-presumed– song.

– I’m used to being at the helm myself: I write the lyrics, compose, play and play. It was fun to go to another artist’s song as a guest and be guided by another in the music world. It’s not characteristic of me, says Rajamaa.

A professional dream

Rajamaa has unfulfilled career dreams.

– Yes, it was meant to be done during this lifetime – other territorial conquests related to the drama, Rajamaa says.

The conversation turns to directing.

– There would be a couple of stories to tell. In my case, I should take it under my own control, i.e. also direct if I want to tell the story, as I want, says Rajamaa.

Saying the dream out loud silences Rajamaa, but soon she lightens up.

– As a child, I have directed a couple of films, when faija filmed with a video camera in the cottage and we made great Hollywood clips. It wouldn’t be my first time riding with a priest, Rajamaa laughs.
