Yle talk will end completely at the beginning of next year – these channels will be included in the future

Yle Puhe’s broadcasts end at the beginning of the year.

Yle talk ends in January. Pasi Liesimaa

Yle Puhe’s last broadcast date is January 7, 2024. According to Yle’s press release, content heard in Yle Puhe will be available in the future on Yle Arena and other radio channels.

Yle justified the termination decision with a change in media use.

CEO of Yle Merja Ylä-Anttila said in the announcement that the distribution costs of the radio channel will be transferred to the contents. As media is consumed more and more online instead of traditional radio and TV channels, Yle focuses on audio content online.

– Making distribution costs more efficient in the current situation is a responsible use of tax money, Ylä-Anttila stated in Yle’s press release in February when the announcement was made of the end of the channel.

Yle still has five national radio channels in FM distribution: Yle radio Suomi, Yle radio 1, Ylex, Yle Vega and Yle X3M.

From January 8, 2024, the Yle speech frequencies will be freed up for other use by the industry as determined by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom.
