Host of Yle Emma Karasjoki, 29, tells on Instagram how he underwent heart surgery today, Monday. Karasjoki had a successful operation due to arrhythmia.

Karasjoki noticed rhythm disturbances for the first time a year ago, when he was frolicking on the ice outside. Heart rate suddenly jumped to 210.

– The situation was super stressful because the pulse just didn’t drop and it felt like the heart was jumping out of the body. I had never experienced something similar, Karasjoki writes.

Syke went out again a couple of days later.

There were scenes in early autumn when Karasjoki was playing ringette. He once called an ambulance to his home when his heart rate was around 210 for half an hour.

– Lanss paramedics didn’t have time to get anything on the heart film, but urged to see a doctor.

At the doctor, the cardiologist told Karasjoki that he had a congenital arrhythmia. For some, the symptoms don’t start until adulthood.

The doctor wrote a referral for catheter ablation, which treats the part of the heart’s electrical structure that causes the arrhythmia.

– As soon as I got home from the doctor, I burst into tears. Oh, for a heart operation? And without anesthesia? No god.

However, the operation went well.

– But here we are now and everything went well! God, I outdid myself. And what’s best, with more than 90% certainty, arrhythmias should be a thing of the past for me.

In addition to rejoicing, Karasjoki praises HUS and the professionalism of its employees.

Karasjoki, known from Yle Kiosk, recently hosted Yle’s live broadcast from Kansalaistor. In addition, he has hosted, among other things, the Sinkut paljaana program and the Yle Olohuone program.

A similar, fairly common operation has also been performed on a host and a musician Roope Salmi.

– Today, a lifelong struggle with a congenital structural defect of the heart came to an end, hopefully once and for all. My therapist Rea stated that we who have bad arrhythmias when we are young all think we are alone, but actually this is quite common. That’s why I decided to write a little about this, Salminen wrote on Instagram two years ago.
