This year, the National Sports Commemoration is commemorating the thousands of victims who fell in Dutch football during the Second World War.

Thousands of football club members died in World War II. The KNVB monument from 1949 contains 2212 names. Due to additional research, more than 500 new victims have already been found. Experts assume that there were around 5000 victims in Dutch football, such as members, administrators, referees, officials, volunteers, donors and supporters.

Levchenko is chairman of the players’ union VVCS. He currently stands up for the victims of the war in his country in several ways. Levchenko played football at Vitesse, Sparta Rotterdam and FC Groningen, among others.
