Yet again puppies born at controversial dog breeder

The controversial dog breeder in Eersel does not seem to care about the penalty payments he receives. Another litter of puppies has been born at Kwispel Enzo. This is striking, because breeding is in conflict with the zoning plan. The company on Grote Aardweg is not allowed to breed dogs at this location, the Council of State ruled in February.

Both the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) and the municipality of Eersel are aware of the litter of puppies. Both check on Wag Enzo weekly, but now can’t get rid of the mother dog and her puppies.

The NVWA says that their inspectors have carefully examined the litter. “There’s no immediate reason to take them out of there and it looked pretty good.” The mother dog and puppies were placed under heat lamps and in a ‘whelping box’ during the weekly check-up. That is a special box in which the mother dog takes care of her litter during the first weeks.

“The zoning does not distinguish between dogs or puppies.”

A spokeswoman for the municipality of Eersel says that the authority of the municipality is limited to enforcing the rules of the zoning plan. “This prohibits the commercial keeping of dogs. The zoning plan makes no distinction between dogs and puppies.”

In short, no dog breeding is allowed on the location of Kwispel Enzo. Whether that is with three dogs or two hundred dogs, does not matter for the penalty. Every week that dogs, young or old, are found, the penalty for Kwispel Enzo increases by 2,500 euros. “

Earlier this year, dozens of dogs were removed from the breeder in Eersel that were not in good shape. They had to be urgently checked by a vet and were taken care of elsewhere. Not all dogs were taken away. The dogs left behind were healthy.

Animal welfare organization House of Animals is concerned about the puppies and females left behind at Kwispel Enzo. “Because more females left behind may be mated again,” says animal activist Karen Soeters. According to her, the litter is further proof that breeder Jan Paridaans will not stop, despite the court’s ruling.

“We are unpleasantly surprised.”

This week is the eighth of ten checks at the Eerselse dog breeder. If dogs are found again, the municipality will impose a fine of 2,500 euros again. This brings the total to 20,000 euros in penalties imposed by the municipality of Eersel. “We are unpleasantly surprised by the presence of the new litter of puppies.”

The municipality of Eersel has announced that it is now working on new even higher penalty payments to ensure that Kwispel Enzo stops breeding and keeping dogs on the Grote Aardweg.
