He was in the cell for sedition, as a result of which other people have committed criminal offenses, according to the Public Prosecution Service. A condition for release until the substance of the case was dealt with was abstaining from expressions on social media; this he himself would have suggested. Engel denies this in the Weltschmerz broadcast.
“It is inevitable that Engel will go straight back to the cell. This is really an insult to the court and the Public Prosecution Service,” said Dikkeboom, who already did not trust Engel’s promise (not to express himself via social media).

“Willem Engel can’t resist. The judiciary probably hoped that two weeks in jail would lead to the insight that he should refrain from such statements, but nothing is further from the truth.
