One of the Trendyol 1st League teams, Yeni Malatyaspor announced that their request to withdraw from the league for the new season due to the negativities experienced after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş was accepted by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF).
In the statement made by the club, it was reminded that 11 cities, including Malatya, suffered major injuries in the earthquakes on 6 February, which were described as the “disaster of the century”.
In the statement, it was stated that the application made to the TFF in the second half of the 2022-2023 season was evaluated quickly and that they were withdrawn from the league last season, with their rights reserved, and that some players had to be sent to different clubs on loan.
While it was emphasized that the facilities were unusable, the following comments were made:
“Due to our transfer board being closed and our current players’ concerns about the city, our request to withdraw from the league, without prejudice to our rights, has been accepted by the TFF. Our club will be prepared to fight in the 2024-2025 season. During this time, we will become stronger both financially and as a staff. We will open our transfer pit and carry our glorious New Malatyaspor to the Super League and to Europe,” said the Minister of Sports, Mehmet Ekşi, who gave us endless support from our club’s support from the league. “We would like to express our endless thanks to the Governor of Malatya, Hulusi Şahin, and our Mayor of Malatya Metropolitan Municipality, Selahattin Gürkan. We wish God’s mercy to all our citizens, especially Ahmet Eyüp Türkaslan, who lost his life in the 6 February earthquakes, and patience and fortitude to their grieving relatives. Remember, we will all get through these days together.”
