Yelena Isinbayeva has removed from her social media a photo in which she poses with Vladimir Putin, the Russian Championat website news.
The photo was published in November 2017. At that time, Isinbayeva publicly joined Putin’s supporters before the 2018 presidential election.
The pole vaulting legend is in the middle of an uproar in his home country, because he has decided to cut ties with Russia. Previously, he was heavily involved in Russian politics and supported Putin.
Isinbayeva holds the rank of major in the Russian army, but recently she has begun to refer to that title only in name.
The ex-sports star also recently made waves on social media by writing a poem for the Russians. The text can be interpreted as a response to people who criticize him.
– When they throw stones at you, keep your chin up proudly. Because you know the truth in your heart. There is not an iota of falsehood in your words. When they mock you and laugh behind your back, remember to pray for love and know that the angels are with you, Isinbayeva wrote at the time, according to Forpost-Sevastopol.ru.
Isinbayeva currently lives in Tenerife and works in the Athletes’ Committee of the International Olympic Committee.
