Former freestyler Teemu Packalén, 36, is making an excellent recovery from surgery. Packalén had to undergo surgery for a herniated disc in his neck.

The athlete’s voice is hoarse at the moment because the surgery was performed anteriorly and the trachea had to be moved to the side during that time. Despite the procedure, Packalén tells Iltalehte that it doesn’t hurt to breathe or speak.

Most importantly: the pains that have tormented me for years are finally gone.

– One of the happiest men in the world woke up from Heräämö. Yes, it was a pretty amazing feeling. When I went to the operating table, I was in pain, no matter what medicine was given to me. When I woke up, it didn’t hurt anymore, Packalén rejoices to Iltalehti.

Of course, the athlete still has surgery pains, but they should end with time. Soon, Packalén will start a 4-8 week rehabilitation, but before that the doctors will check that the plate installed in the athlete’s neck has definitely settled down properly.

Packalén has already had time to inform his loved ones that the surgery went well. Packalén says that his father has been to the hospital to see his son, but the athlete, who was drugged, unfortunately does not remember anything about the encounter.

Spouse of Packalén Eevi Teittinen34, will not be able to see his beloved until today, Thursday.

– Unfortunately, Eevi couldn’t make it because we have a one-and-a-half-year-old child who has to do things according to his sleep rhythm. But he will visit today or even pick me up if I can get home already today, Packalén says.

Packalén revealed to Iltalehte at the beginning of June that the diagnosis that led to the operation went almost unnoticed by the doctors. Doctors only found the cause of the symptoms last spring, although the pains had been tormenting the athlete for a long time. The symptoms caused by a herniated disc in the neck were aggravated by Parsonage-Turner syndrome and a narrow nerve root opening that had already been diagnosed for Packalén.
