On the occasion of the official launch on February 25th, BYD on social media Weibo reveals the official characteristics of the YangWang U9 electric “monster”. The battery-powered supercar is equipped with four Tz220Xyak electric motors produced by BYD. Each electric motor has a peak power of 240 kW (322 HP), with a combined power of 960 kW (1,287 HP). The YangWang revealed that the maximum torque of the system reaches 1,680 Nm, numbers that allow the car to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds. Powering the four electric motors is the 80 kWh LFP battery, which ensures an autonomy declared with the Chinese CLTC protocol of 465 km.
superb technique
—
The YangWang U9 adopts, for the first time in the world, the U-shaped engine, which guarantees a lower center of gravity. It is also equipped with permanent magnets resistant to high temperatures and demagnetization which improve the efficiency of the motor; in fact, they can withstand temperatures of up to 200 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the car is equipped with a silicon carbide regulator, which brings the transmission efficiency to 99.8% (the efficiency of conventional automatic transmissions varies from 86% to 94%). The car’s thermal management system includes two electronic pumps on the front and rear axles; each is independently controlled and cools the engines.
the dynamics
—
The YangWang U9 is equipped with the DiSus-X chassis, which, according to the company, allows the car to take corners faster, brake without skidding and start without lifting the front end. The DiSus-X suspension can lift each axle at a speed of 500 mm/s thanks to the maximum power of 36 kW provided by the 800V platform. The bodywork of the car is made of carbon fibre, with a new generation structure: the torsional rigidity is 54,425 Nm. The dynamic qualities of the car are also guaranteed by the rear spoiler, which provides downforce of up to 280 kg. Despite the refined technique, it has to counteract the car’s curb weight, which is 2,475 kg. The YangWang U9 is 4,966mm long, 2,029mm wide and 1,295mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,900mm.
game changer?

BYD will produce the YangWang U9 in Shenzhen, China. Undoubtedly it is a very interesting supercar which will almost certainly also arrive in Europe but with a different name and brand. We remind you that YangWang is a brand of high-end new energy vehicles (Bev+ Phev/Erev) from BYD, launched in early 2023. Its model line currently includes the YangWang U8 SUV with range extender, offered at a price of starting at 1,096,000 yuan (150,000 dollars). The U8 entered the Chinese market in November last year: cumulative deliveries reached 3,653 units, with 1,652 vehicles sold in January 2024.
