In the “Pictures” of the Yandex search engine, when querying “Bucha”, first of all, the basic images of the city are displayed, while in Google, with a similar request, the actual images immediately appear

When searching for photos from the Ukrainian city of Bucha, Yandex shows first of all the most popular images, and not the ones that have appeared recently, RBC was told in the press service of the company in response to a request to explain why, when searching for photos by the word “Bucha”, frames taken by before the outbreak of hostilities, while on a similar request, Google appears footage of the consequences of the fighting.

“In pictures, the priority of recently published images for direct queries about toponyms (names of cities, objects on the map) is low, since for direct queries, users usually need basic images of cities (“Moscow”, “Kyiv”, “London”, “Paris” and others),” the press service said.

Yandex added that image search has been working this way “for many years.”

Relevant images, including photos from the media, are found for clarifying queries, for example, “Bucha now”, but do not appear on the first screen for the query “Bucha”.

“It will happen over time. There is also a “Fresh” button in the pictures, where you can see recently published photos,” Yandex said.
